MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

MOVICOL Flavour Free 30 pack Macrogol Plus Electrolytes for constipation.
Effective relief from constipation, treatment of chronic constipation and resolution of faecal impaction. MOVICOL is a very effective laxative that works in harmony with your body’s own processes, to gently restore healthy bowel movements. It’s suitable for all kinds of constipation and people, easy to prepare and use, and comes in a wide range of flavours. You may have previously used MOVICOL on the advice of a healthcare professional. But you can also keep MOVICOL in your cupboard at home, handy for occasional constipation episodes. Just follow instructions in the pack, and ask your pharmacist if you have any questions. Always read the label. Use only as directed and consult your Healthcare Professional if symptoms persist.
Suitable For: Ages 12 & up.
Product Claims: Unlike some laxatives that work to directly cause bowel contractions, MOVICOL works in a way that's more naturally aligned to your system. Regardless of what's caused your constipation, it's the loss of water as stools pass through your bowel that makes them hard, dry and difficult to pass. MOVICOL is formulated to help rectify this by aiding water retention in the bowel for an easier, more natural bowel movement. MOVICOL usually takes between 24 and 48 hours to act. While some laxatives may work slightly faster, the onset of their action can be relatively harsh and sometimes unpredictable. MOVICOL gives you effective but gentle control compared with most other laxatives. Always read the label. Use only as directed and consult your Healthcare Professional if symptoms persist..

The fluid content of MOVICOL when re-constituted with water does not replace regular fluid intake and adequate fluid intake must be maintained. Adverse reactions are possible as described under Adverse Reactions. If patients develop any symptoms indicating shifts of fluid/electrolytes (eg. oedema, shortness
of breath, increasing fatigue, dehydration, cardiac failure) MOVICOL should be stopped immediately and electrolytes measured, and any abnormality should be treated appropriately.
The absorption of other medicinal products could transiently be reduced due to a decrease in gastro-intestinal transit time induced by MOVICOL (see interactions with other drugs).
As with all laxatives, prolonged use is not usually recommended and may lead to dependence. If prolonged use is necessary, it should only be under medical supervision. Extended use may be necessary in the care of patients with severe chronic or resistant constipation, secondary to multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's
Disease, or induced by regular constipating medication, in particular opioids and antimuscarinics. Patients should be advised to drink plenty of water. They should also increase fibre in the diet, except in the case of medication-induced constipation.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This medicine helps you to have a comfortable bowel movement even if you have been constipated for a long time. It also works in faecal impaction (as determined by your doctor).

Contains: Each sachet contains 13.125 g of macrogol 3350.

For oral administration. Each sachet should be dissolved in 125 mL water. For faecal impaction 8 sachets may be dissolved in 1 litre of water. Store reconstituted solution in a refrigerator and discard any solution not used within 6 hours.

Gentle & Really works!
This doesn't cause an uncomfortable laxtive affect like other constipation products. It's gentle & draws moisture to the blockage which makes it easier & softer to pass. It's safe & works a treat for adults & children alike. Highly recommended!

Works a treat but unpleasant taste
Flavour Free doesn't mean it's tasteless but rather it doesn't have any taste added. It's got a really unpleasant salty taste, like rehydration medication. I top up my glass with pear juice and it's fine. It works quickly and well - but a good idea to keep track of how many you have each day in case you forget you already took some and end up taking 3 sachets in a day ..... you'll figure out your mistake soon enough.

Do the job
Was recommended these by my GP. They are great for relieving constipation. They say flavour free but they do have a slight unpleasant taste to them, however when mixed with some cordial the taste is masked so are perfectly drinkable.

I use movicol for daily relief of constipation with the aid of glycerol suppositories. Sometimes I find lactulose more effective.
